In support of UF Strategic Plan and UF’s sustainability initiative, UF Surplus, on average, reuses, refurbishes and recycles 99% of all surplus property received from UF departments, Direct Support Organizations, Health Science Center Affiliates, and Shands Hospital.
UF Surplus provides an easy way for surplus property to be reused by other departments within the University or repurposed by another entity. The UF Surplus PC shop refurbishes computer equipment to meet UF Information Technology (UFIT) standards. UF Surplus recycles end-of-life surplus property that cannot be used by other departments within the University or repurposed by another entity to reduce or eliminate the waste that is placed into landfills.
UF Surplus is responsible for picking up, transferring, recycling, donating, and selling by public auction all surplus property for the University of Florida.
Departments are encouraged to use the UF Property Swap Listserv to offer unneeded furniture and equipment to other departments before requesting a Surplus pick-up. The Department Contact and Property Custodian can request unneeded furniture and equipment to be picked up from their department by the use of a Surplus Pick-Up Request in myAssets. The Surplus Pick-Up Request requires a description, location, condition, and tag (decal) number, if applicable. For step-by-step instructions on how to submit a Surplus Pick-Up Request, click here. Once your request has been approved by your Department Custodian, the request will be scheduled and picked up within 14 days. You will receive notification by e-mail.
Items can also be dropped off directly to UF Surplus during hours of operation.
UF Property Swap Listserv
Property Swap (uf-property-swap-L@lists.ufl.edu) – The UF departments uses this Listserv to offer unneeded furniture and equipment (excluding computers, laptops, and mobile devices) to other UF departments who can utilize the furniture and equipment. This Listserv is open to all faculty and staff. Postings on this website should include a description of the items, pictures, location of the items, and departmental contact information. Any property acquired through this website must continue to serve the UF community and is not available for personal or private use.
To join Listserv, send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org with “subscribe UF_PROPERTY_SWAP-L first name last name” as the body.

Departments give property they no longer need to UF Surplus. Other departments may obtain, at no cost, any of this usable property through a transfer. UF Surplus annually transfers more than 3,000 items back to UF departments. The estimated annual cost savings to the departments is over $3.5 million dollars. Only authorized users can obtain surplus property at the UF Surplus. Authorization is requested to UF Surplus in myAssets by the Property Custodian or Departmental Contact, and approved by the Property Custodian.
Please refer to departmental policies about acquiring items from UF Surplus. Your Departmental Contact and Property Custodian can assist you through this process. Items obtained from UF Surplus is for official use only and privileges may be revoked at the Department’s discretion at any time.

The UF Surplus PC shop refurbishes computer equipment to meet UF Information Technology (UFIT) standards. Departments can request refurbished equipment to address computing needs at no cost to the department. The following types of equipment are available: desktop computers, laptops, tablets, printers, projectors, and monitors. Please email all PC Shop equipment requests to UFPCShop@admin.ufl.edu.
UF Surplus is a leader in sustainability efforts at the University of Florida. UF Surplus recycles end-of-life surplus property that cannot be used by other departments within the University or repurposed by another entity. UF Surplus sends electronic equipment to a certified e-waste recycler to ensure that it is disposed of properly in accordance with UF’s sustainability efforts. In addition, UF Surplus recycles end-of-life items directly with recyclers or in the bulk metal and wood recycling area in conjunction with Facilities Services.
Auction of Surplus Property
Surplus property not claimed by UF departments is auctioned to the public. UF Surplus auctions generate over $500,000 annually, which is used to further the mission of UF. To see what is available for auction and for additional information about UF Surplus online auctions, click here.
Donations of Surplus Property
UF Surplus donates furniture and equipment to support the local communities. Annual donations of furniture and equipment to local schools and non-profit organizations is estimated to be valued over $500,000.
