Disbursements
The primary purpose of the Financial Aid Disbursement
area is to disburse financial aid to students of the university. The types
of aid disbursed include federal, state and private loans, scholarships, and grants.
Responsibilities include maintaining individual student accounts to record charges,
credits, and amounts due. Personnel from this area also assist in establishing
and implementing refund policies, issuing refunds to program accounts and students,
and recovering and returning overpayments to program accounts.
The Financial Aid Disbursement area provides Entrance Orientation and Exit Counseling to students who have been awarded student loan(s). This area processes and mails updated Exit Counseling information to the Guarantee Agencies within established federal guidelines. Federal regulations require that student loan borrowers complete an Exit Interview counseling Session before leaving the University. You must complete this Exit Counseling process before you will be allowed to receive an official transcript, diploma, or other University services. For your convenience, we are pleased to provide online Exit Counseling at http://www.isis.ufl.edu/. Select “Financial Information”, then “Student Loan Exit Counseling” to go directly to the UF Exit Counseling site. Complete instructions are on this website. The Financial Aid Disbursement area also is responsible for administering portions of the federal and institutional student loan programs. This includes following established federal due diligence procedures, such as; securing promissory notes, billing, authorization of deferments and cancellations. The Financial Aid Disbursement process is automated. As a service to our customers, we deduct all debts owed to the University of Florida from the student’s financial aid awards and send the net difference to the student. A student has a choice between two disbursement methods, direct deposit or U.S. Postal mail. The Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) method is a fast and secure way to receive your financial aid proceeds. It takes approximately one business day from the date of disbursement to secure your funds into your checking account only. We send to your local address a receipt that identifies the financial aid awards disbursed and the amount deposited into your checking account only. Please visit our EFT sign up site for more information about how to receive your money faster at http://www.isis.ufl.edu/ under Financial Information. The second disbursement method is U.S. Postal mail. We send financial aid checks less the student’s debts to his or her local address using the U. S. Postal mail service. It is important and the student’s responsibility to keep his or her address current with the University of Florida. You may go to http://www.isis.ufl.edu/ to update your address. Although it is the student’s choice for the method of disbursement, we strongly recommend the EFT method. It is the best way to get your money fast. The University Financial Services Office disburses financial aid awards three times a week. By the end of the second week of classes, we have disbursed over eighty percent of the financial aid awards. We are recognized for our fast and efficient service to our customers and we strive daily to improve our services.
