Freon Removal

Procedures for Surveying Equipment that Contains Freon:

Non-Working Refrigerator/Freezer Units

  1. Submit & approve a Surplus Property Pick-up Request online at http://myassets.fa.ufl.edu
  2. Contact a HVAC vendor listed below to have the Freon removed from your unit.
  3. Print an Equipment Disposal – Refrigerant Recovery form and have the contractor sign, certifying Freon has been removed properly.
  4. Email completed Freon form to: twall@ufl.edu (Tim Wall).
  5. Once Freon has been removed, Asset Management staff will then schedule a pick-up of your item.

Working Refrigerator/Freezer Units NOT used for “Laboratory Use”

  1. Submit & approve a Surplus Property Pick-up Request online at http://myassets.fa.ufl.edu.
  2. List the item on the University Property List Serve so that other UF departments can reuse the item in their department. (Claimed items can be “voided” off the Surplus Property Pick-up Request form)
  3. If the item is not claimed, contact the Surplus Office at 392-0370 about selling the unit in place through our online auctions.
  4. Once the item has been sold, a receipt will be generated. A copy will be emailed back to the department.

Working Refrigerator/Freezer Units for Laboratory Use Only

  1. Submit & approve a Surplus Property Pick-up Request online at http://myassets.fa.ufl.edu
  2. List the item on the University Property List Serve so that other UF departments can reuse the item in their department. (Claimed items can be “voided” off the Surplus Property Pick-up Request form)
  3. If the item is not claimed, contact a HVAC vendor listed below to have the Freon removed from the unit.

Please Note: The department is still responsible for any charges in the event that Freon has to be removed. The department will be invoiced and asked for P-Card information as requested.
DO NOT STORE SURPLUS EQUIPMENT IN HALLWAYS WHILE AWAITING PICK-UP.
