1098-E Student Loan Tax Information

If you made payments on your federal, institutional, and/or private student loans that total $600 or more paid toward interest during a calendar year, you may be eligible to deduct a portion of the interest you paid on your federal tax return.  Your student loan servicer (the entity you make payments to) will provide you a 1098-E if interest paid to them equals or exceeds $600.  Your servicer may send your 1098-E via U.S. Postal Service or electronically.  For student loan servicer information, go to www.nslds.ed.gov or call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243; TTY 1-800-730-8913).

For student loan tax information go to www.irs.gov to view Publication 970.
